Storytime
I first wan to apologize to our readers for my late post. For some reason I went through today thinking it was Wednesday (of course it wasn’t and today is my day for posting)
Last night Charlotte and I had a sleepover at Auntie Abbie’s house in Boston. Even though we weren’t at home we still stuck to our bedtime routine and Charlotte got to sleep in between Abbie and I in Ab’s king size bed!!! A key element to our bedtime routine is story time. I LOVE story time and so does Charlotte. Each season (summer, fall, winter and spring) I take Charlotte to the book store to buy a few “season themed” books for under $10 (total). Spending $40 a year on books for Charlotte seems like a great way to spend $40 – the books bring us endless hours of enjoyment. On the rainy Monday night, Charlotte and I went to Barnes and Noble and she choose a few great fall reads.
Let it Fall – Maryann Cocca-Leffler
Whistle for Wille - Ezra Jack Keats (not specific to Fall but what a great read)
Fall – Nuria Roca, Rosa Maria Curto (Illustrator)
Ruby’s Falling Leaves – Rosemary Wells
We also love to check out books at the library and before our move our favorite library was the Cambridge Public Library.
Thank you Al for sharing. What a good idea! Inspired, I went and bought Caroline her first Autumn book. We picked out “Leaves” by David Ezra Stein. It’s a board book and perfect for an 11 month old.
What a great way to start a family collection! Other ideas to add to it from my years scrounging for books as a teacher: If you know any preschool/elementary school teachers, you can ask if you can use their Scholastic Books account to buy books through Scholastic. Classic books are available in paperback versions for about $2-4, and there is a whole section for $.95 each. Also, ask your local libraries when they have book sales. I’ve picked up worn, but still readable, hardcover books for $.50. And if a library book has some wear, it means it’s good enough to be checked out frequently.
For next season, I highly suggest “Snowmen at Night!” Happy reading
Excellent advice Em! I do notice that the library is constantly having book sales.
